INDOOR UPDATE
We have our last meet of the indoor season today before the indoor MIAC championships at Carleton next weekend, and we have had some great performances thus far this indoor season.
Junior Cole Stencel’s new indoor mile SJU school record of 4:10.42, surpassing John Mathews’ 2003 record of 4:11.75, has been the highlight of the season thus far. The race was set up very well for Cole with a few of the Gophers doing the early leading until Cole decided to blow by them all on the last lap, closing in 58 with 2:08-2:02 as his 800m splits on his way to winning the race. We’ve had several other great performances as well during our short and sweet indoor season. Here are our top marks in each mid-distance/distance event so far:
600m: 1:22.12, Owen Montreuil
800m: 1:55.05, Owen Montreuil (SJU #4 All-Time)
1,000m: 2:28.88, Cole Stencel (SJU #2 All-Time)
Mile: 4:10.42, Cole Stencel (SJU #1 All-Time)
3,000m: 8:50.07, Nick St. Peter
5,000m: 15:46.07, Jacob Malecha
Cole Stencel (3k), Nick St. Peter (Mile), Lars Molenkamp (800m) and Max McCoy (800m) will be racing later today at the U of M’s Snowshoe Open, while the rest of our team is at Mankato State’s Maverick Open.

j-club silent auction
The J-Club, our SJU Athletics booster club, is holding their annual silent auction at the Johnnie Standup event at Fulton Brewery this coming Monday 2/23, but for the first-time they are also making the silent auction available online: Johnnie Standup 2026. There are many good items available, most notably one of the “Tim Miles School of Coaching” shirts that we had made when Tim was inducted into the J Club Hall of Honor autographed by the man himself.
