Home Run Derby and Homecoming Weekend

HOME RUN DERBY results

Connor Dow — 2025 Sultan of Swat, Home Run Derby Champion

Held our annual home run derby yesterday at practice. Per usual, there were some impressive performances amongst a lot of not so good performances. To get right to the punch, our winning St. Michael’s Games team only had two members who hit a single home run… those two members just happened to be 1st and 2nd overall on the whole team. Talk about carrying the team!

By defending his title from last year, Connor Dow became our first back-to-back home run derby champion since Seth Snyder in 1996 and 1997. There’s an award that will go right up on Connor’s parents’ fridge.

homecoming weekend

join us at practice tomorrow morning - 9am at indoor track!

Brian Smith ‘83 - Saint John’s J-Club Hall of Honor Class of 2025

Quick reminder of the open invitation for you all to join us at our 9:00 AM cross country practice tomorrow morning (Saturday 9/27) in the indoor track if you are planning to be on campus for Homecoming Weekend.

This year's cross country / track & field inductee into the Saint John's Hall of Honor, Brian Smith '83, will be there to share a few words with the team and, more importantly, he has also agreed to be interviewed by our current team as well as any alumni present. A fun tradition to keep going after interviewing Tim and Chuck Ceronsky at our Homecoming morning practice last year to celebrate their own induction into the Hall of Honor. After the interview you would be welcome to go for an easy run on campus with other alumni / our current team or simply hang around the indoor track and socialize. Would love for you to join us!

Here is the write-up summarizing Brian's impressive career at Saint John's as well as information on how to register for the Hall of Honor event on Saturday evening, which begins at 5:15pm in Guild Hall, if you would like to attend: 2025 J-Club Hall of Honor Class: Brian Smith '83 - Saint John's University Athletics.

Among other great accomplishments, Brian became our program’s first ever national champion when he won the 1983 NCAA Outdoor 5,000m, before also going on to finish 3rd at the national cross country meet six months later. Additionally, Brian still owns our outdoor 5K school record (14:19.70) as well as the fastest 8K run by a Saint John's athlete — 23:56 from the 1983 national cross country meet in Newport News, Virginia. Congrats Brian!

Have a great Friday and hope to see you on campus tomorrow!
